It was a rough 2023 for the duke and his wife in which they saw Spotify cancel the duchess’s podcast and end their multi-million partnership before a company executive called them “f****** grifters and they landed on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Biggest Losers” list. The couple then vowed that 2024 would be their “redemption year.”

However, the non-working royals suffered more career setbacks in the new year when the duke’s paperback edition of Spare had dismal sales and his Netflix documentary about polo flopped. Meanwhile, the duchess’ lifestyle brand faced issues with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and therefore never ended up selling any products. On top of that, Meghan was labeled a “demon boss” and “dictator in high heels” by more than a dozen former employees.

Now, an expert is explaining why the Sussexes may have reached the end of the road in terms of having any major successes professionally.

Jane Owen is a Hollywood publicist, who like everyone else remembers Meghan and Harry splitting from the royal family and having millions of dollars thrown their way almost as soon as they arrived on U.S. soil. And like the rest of us, Owen also remembers a lot of promises from the duke and duchess about what they were going to put out and create but not delivering much more than dirt on the royal family.

Because they haven’t done much of anything, Owen says they’re no longer popular and Hollywood elites aren’t lining up to work with them.

Owen told The Standard: “Quite frankly, they were given every opportunity to shine in Hollywood. Royal commentator and To Di for Daily podcast Kinsey Scholfield agrees and insists that no one wants to work with the Sussexes now because “they can’t be taken seriously.”

During an episode of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered, she opined: “[Harry and Meghan] have alienated themselves. They’ve made so many wrong moves that I don’t think they’re taken seriously anymore.”

Schofield also told Talk TV that she’s “never seen a more blissfully unaware couple. However, no more was the dysfunction of the clan more evident than the family’s 2024 annual Christmas walk.

What is the blatantly apparent dysfunction during the royal family’s Christmas walk?

The Daily Beast reports the royal family took their customary walk to church on the Sandringham estate on Dec. 25, 2024. This show of unity ended a tumultuous year for the clan. Two of its key members stepped back from public life due to devastating health diagnoses.

“The annual walk to the Church of St, Mary Magdalene is supposed to exude an impression of unity, stability, and conventional family values. Despite a rapturous reception by a crowd estimated at over 1,000 at this year’s promenade, it exposed deep fractures within the family,” wrote Tom Sykes as the royal’s disfunction was laid bare on Christmas.

He continued, “While Kate and William and their children George, Charlotte, and Louis were the stars of the show, there was zero public acknowledgment of the king’s other son, Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, or their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who are in self-imposed exile in California.”

Kate Middleton will embark on a new royal “mission” in 2025 involving Prince Harry. A new report claims that the Princess of Wales has learned “life’s too precious” after both she and King Charles faced cancer in 2024.

Kate Middleton is reportedly leading a 2025 royal reunion

Kate Middleton spent much of 2024 focusing on her health after a cancer diagnosis earlier in the year. Right around the same time the Princess of Wales, King Charles also found out he had the disease.

While the palace did not disclose what types of cancer both the monarch and his daughter-in-law experienced, each spent the better part of the year in treatment. Kate discussed how this experience gave her pause about what was truly important in several Instagram posts and in a video where she declared she had finished treatment.

However, a source close to the royal family told Life & Style Kate’s new mission is to get the royal family to reconcile. This reconciliation would bring Prince Harry back into the family fold after he left his role as a senior royal in 2020.

“Kate wants the family to reconcile. With the king’s health continuing to decline, there’s only so much time for that to happen. Kate is on a mission to bring Harry home.”

“Kate doesn’t like waiting around for things to happen anymore. She’s learned life is too precious. She fears time is running out,” the source continues. “She’s already reached out to Harry, who was receptive. The main objective of her plan is for Harry to return to Britain and make amends with Charles.”

Prince Harry reportedly hasn’t met with Charles directly since he flew to the United Kingdom in February upon learning of the monarch’s cancer diagnosis. Harry told ABC News, “Look, I love my family. In December 2024, royal expert Katie Nicholl told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive that Kate Middleton is the only person who can heal the royal family feud between Prince William, King Charles, and Prince Harry. She is in the unique position of peacemaker if she wishes to claim the role.

Nicholl explained that Harry using drama between him, Kate, and William to paint a negative narrative about the royal family may be unforgivable. However, Kate may overlook some things in the past to make future peace.

She said, “Kate’s been thrown under the bus by Harry. He’s said hurtful things about her, and he’s brought the children into the narrative. I think Prince William remains very, very angry and upset and feels very betrayed.”

King Charles III traveling across the pond for a U.S. visit? A podcast host is “shooting down” the idea for 2025. Why? Because it’s where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live. Given their strained relationship, it’d become a major talking point.

Visiting the U.S. would be awkward for King Charles because of Harry and Meghan

With King Charles set to resume regular royal duties in 2025 as his cancer recovery continues, the Daily Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers, told the “Pod Save The King” podcast he thinks visiting the U.S. may be on the 76-year-old’s schedule (via Express).

Ann Gripper, the podcast’s host, quickly dismissed the idea. “I am going to shoot down your theory of them going to America, because, who else is in America? Meghan and Harry.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived in Montecito, California, since relocating stateside in 2020. Simply by being on U.S. soil, even if it’s the East Coast when the couple lives on the West Coast, Gripper argued there’d likely be lots of talk about a potential royal get-together.

“Then it becomes an international, diplomatic….Are they going to come to New York?” Gripper said. “‘We’ve come half the way across the world and you’ve just come to the other side of the country. And should we just meet up? Can we see the grandkids?’”

“If it’s not actually a thing, it will be a thing we’re all talking about,” she added.

King Charles hasn’t seen Harry since February 2024, Meghan since 2022

The Sussexes and the rest of the British royal family—apart from Princess Eugenie—keep their distance from each other. The last time Harry and his father met in person was in early February 2024 shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the king’s cancer diagnosis. (His treatment is ongoing.) Harry flew to London, England, where he reportedly spent less than an hour at Clarence House with King Charles.

As for Meghan, she hasn’t rubbed shoulders with members of the British royal family for some time. She last saw the likes of King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Since then she hasn’t returned to the U.K. for any visits, big or small.

The king is hesitant to talk to Prince Harry

According to a Daily Beast report, King Charles is “reluctant to even speak to” his youngest son “—let alone build meaningful bridges—until Harry drops his court case against the British government, in which Harry is seeking to have full time, automatic, armed security restored to him and his family when they are on British soil.”

According to Honigman, “There is an understated event being planned for Charles and Camilla to celebrate their 20 years of marriage. It won’t be a ‘family only’ party, there are politicians and friends who have been invited, but it will be smaller than a full ceremony. The event’s colors are cream and gold, and the photos that emerge appear summery and joyous. August is indicated in the Tarot as the timing of the party, even though the 20-year anniversary would be in April.”

Honigman acknowledged that because Prince Harry said things about Camilla that wrecked any civil relationship they did have, the Sussexes visit will be “a little awkward” and very brief saying: “No storm lasts forever. There will seemingly be no Christmas miracle for Prince William and Prince Harry. Any hope for a potential reconciliation between the two this holiday season was reportedly gone early in December 2024 when the estranged brothers couldn’t even be in the same virtual space.

The 2024 Diana Award ceremony on Dec. 5, 2024, didn’t bring together the late Princess Diana’s sons, the Prince of Wales, 42, and Duke of Sussex, 40. Unlike their Spencer relative’s memorial service earlier this year, William and Harry didn’t find themselves in the same room. Or, for that matter, the same virtual space.

The Diana Award ceremony took place online. Harry, for his part, appeared in a video during the ceremony. This, however, according to The Daily Beast, proved to be a “provocation too much for William.” The father of three didn’t participate in the ceremony. Instead, he sent letters to the winners.

What happened at the Diana Award ceremony wasn’t a good look for William, Harry, or King Charles

Marking their late mother’s legacy separately, even in a virtual setting, didn’t reflect kindly on William, Harry, or their father, King Charles III. As an old school friend told the publication, it highlighted the brothers’ stubbornness. And, of course, that “there seems no prospect of a Christmas reconciliation.”

“The Windsors are known for being obstinate, and this is a sad indictment of both brothers’ obstinacy,” the friend who has stayed closer to William said. “It’s in honor of their mother, for goodness sake.”

A former royal staffer, who worked for both William and Harry, described their lack of cooperation as an example of how their “family argument” is wreaking havoc. Not just on their personal lives, but on their reputations and that of their father.

“It’s extraordinary how what was essentially a family argument has got completely out of proportion,” they said. “[It] is now causing immense damage not just to Harry’s reputation, but also to the king, who looks weak for not being able to crack his sons’ heads together, and the future king, William, who looks petty and ridiculous.”

“Whether or not it is the case, it looks very much like William refused to attend the awards after hearing Harry was making a video appearance,” they added, before asking, “Is this how he is going to rule the country?”

So, what exactly is going on with William and Harry as 2024 ends? After years of not talking, it seems the two aren’t charting a new course. Harry, per the outlet, is said to have dropped his demand for his relatives to apologize to Meghan Markle. Now, he reportedly wants to start fresh. That is, without apologizing or taking back anything he’s said publicly about all the royal family drama.

As for William, time doesn’t seem to have softened the future king on reconciling with his brother. Sources claimed the 42-year-old is standing firm. He won’t consider making up with Harry unless he apologizes for his comments.

Furthermore, he’s said to be using his growing influence in the royal family—William is first in line to the throne—to keep Harry at a distance from their father, King Charles III, despite staffing changes seemingly making the path to reconciliation easier.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman previously said King Charles couldn’t hit the reset button on his relationship with Harry without William’s support.

“Whatever the king does needs to be done in tandem with both brothers, not just one. He can’t have unilateral discussions if William isn’t in agreement,” Hardman said. “Whatever reconciliation or bridge-building happens, it needs to be a three-way process. People keep asking about the king’s feelings, but William also has to be on board, which adds complexity.”

So, it looks like William and Kate Middleton will celebrate the holiday season on one side of the Atlantic as Harry and the Sussex family do the same on the other with no reconciliation for the brothers.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in 2018 and welcomed their first child, Prince Archie, in 2019. At the time, the two were still living in the United Kingdom, but by the time they welcomed Princess Lilibet in 2021, they had been living in California for more than a year.

Lilibet was about a year old when she met Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 while Harry and Meghan were visiting for the queen’s Platinum Jubilee. But the queen reportedly harshly declined Harry and Meghan’s one request about the meeting.

When Harry and Meghan returned to the UK for the jubilee, they knew it would be the queen’s first time meeting their daughter. As a result, Harry and Meghan reportedly wanted to hire a professional photographer to capture the moment. However, the queen harshly declined with two words: “No chance.”

According to Mirror, a source close to the family said Harry and Meghan were told there was “no chance” that they would be able to hire a professional photographer because the meeting between Lili and the queen was a “private family meeting.” The source alleged that the family was worried the photos would be published in US media outlets if they gave consent. It’s hard to tell if it’s absolutely true, considering the royal family published professional photos of the queen meeting Archie. It seems not too far-fetched to request a photographer for the same meeting with Lilibet.

The queen and Lilibet only met once, though the queen has always had a good relationship with all of her great-grandchildren and likely adored Lilibet in the same way.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are raising their children very privately

Harry and Meghan have taken steps to ensure that their kids are brought up in the most private environment possible. The two hardly ever share photos of Archie and Lilibet, and they have not returned to the UK with their kids since the queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Archie and Lilibet are both in school, and Harry and Meghan have been trying to give them the most normal lives possible.

It seems that both Harry and his brother, Prince William, are trying to avoid raising their kids in the spotlight the way they were raised. William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have also worked hard to keep photos and information about their kids private. While Harry and William don’t agree on much, it seems they at least do agree that their upbringing was not as private as they would have liked.

Christmas may not be a happy time for Prince Harry. At least not entirely. An insider says the festive season may serve as a sad reminder of the state of his relationship with his royal relatives while they celebrate in England while he’s thousands of miles away in the U.S.

Not being invited to the royal family’s Christmas celebration, combined with the fact that the Duke of Sussex will be spending another holiday season away from his family, will, a source has claimed, possibly cause the 40-year-old some “hurt.”

“For Harry, it reminds him that he doesn’t have any of his side of the family to celebrate with,” the insider told OK!, per Express. “The kids [Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3,] won’t be seeing their cousins,” Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. “That was one of his favourite [sic] things growing up—all the cousins playing together at Sandringham.”

That’s not all. Seeing his father, King Charles III, spending time with his brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins is likely to add another layer of sadness amid Harry’s ongoing rift with the royal family. “It may well even hurt seeing all the royals together, going to church, and just enjoying each other’s company.”

Harry hasn’t seen his father since February 2024 when he flew to London, England, shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the king’s cancer diagnosis. As for the Prince of Wales, 42, Harry and William didn’t reportedly talk when they went to a memorial for their maternal uncle in August 2024.

Harry hasn’t spent Christmas with the royal family since 2018

Six years have passed since Harry celebrated Christmas with their fellow British royals. 2018 marked the last time he—and Meghan Markle—went to the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England, for festivities including gag gifts, a big meal, and the annual Christmas morning walk to church.

The couple walked with William and Kate just like they did a year earlier in 2017 when the Duchess of Sussex, 43, joined the royals for the first time.

In the years since Harry and Meghan have celebrated Christmas privately. That means no live footage of them on Christmas Day, just the occasional holiday card. They’re now understood to celebrate at home in Montecito, California, with Archie and Lili.

However, there’s still a chance they may, like a previous report claimed, decide to break with celebrating Christmas at home and spend the holiday in England with Princess Diana’s Spencer family relatives.

He still follows the royal family tradition of opening presents on Christmas Eve

Although Harry’s not close with the royal family and hasn’t had a royal Christmas in years, there is still one tradition he’s carried over to his life in California. He revealed in his January 2023 memoir, Spare, that he and Meghan follow the royal family’s tradition of opening presents not on Christmas morning but on Christmas Eve.

“It was Christmas Eve. We FaceTimed with several friends, including a few in Britain. We watched Archie running around the tree. And we opened presents. Keeping to the Windsor family tradition,” he wrote (via Express).

It’s a nod to German tradition, which was introduced to the British royal family by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who was German.
