In the Jan. 5 episode, Kody Brown said Robyn Brown “pressured” him into staying with his other wives. He claimed he would have left sooner if it hadn’t been for her. She insisted that wasn’t the case. Everyone, including Kody’s second ex-wife, Janelle Brown, is weighing in.

Janelle Brown left Kody Brown in 2022 after several months of significant marital strife. Kody Brown briefly seemed interested in getting back in Janelle’s good graces. His motives apparently were different than they appeared.

His recent comments make it sound like Robyn Brown was behind that scheme, too. While Kody can say what he wants, his story isn’t convincing, and it sounds like Janelle isn’t buying it either.

Janelle admitted that she didn’t have any insider information on what Robyn and Kody’s dynamic happens to be. Still, she said it would be a “shame” if Kody allowed Robyn to take so much control of his life that he felt forced to stay with wives he no longer loved and in relationships that were no longer working. She didn’t seem convinced that is what happened, though.

Janelle Brown has some pretty strong feelings about Kody’s revelation. Sister Wives fans do, too. Following the episode, many fans took to social media to call out Kody for making up stories. Many Sister Wives viewers have long believed that Robyn Brown never truly desired to live a plural life. In fact, many viewers believe Robyn has gotten exactly what she wanted all along: a monogamous union. If Robyn was after a monogamous marriage, there would be no reason for her to push Kody to reconcile with his other wives.

Instead of Robyn pushing Kody to make things work, fans believe Kody was always behind the manipulation to keep Meri Brown around. Some viewers have theorized Kody tried to keep his marriages together because he was interested in keeping the money that both Janelle Brown and Meri Brown brought into the marriage. It’s possible he also worried that without his plural marriage, his reality TV career would end.

Now, that isn’t a concern, though. TLC appears to be filming season 20, despite the Brown family no longer living as a plural family or even in the same state.

But instead of heading home to tend to her injuries, she and Kody Brown spent the better part of the episode warring over their polygamist family. Was this an attempt by Robyn and Kody to repair the public reputation of his favorite wife?

Kody and Robyn Brown’s entrance into Sister Wives Season 19, episode 16 showed the couple riding ATVs on the family’s Coyote Pass property. Robyn hit a series of rocks and was thrown off her four-wheeler.

As she lay motionless, instead of calling for help, Kody removed her helmet and got her on her feet. Robyn claimed she hit her head and was hurt.

However, rather than slowly ride home to tend to her injuries, the couple entered into what appeared to be a scripted discussion about their life as a monogamist couple. Robyn feigned ignorance about why Kody couldn’t repair his relationships with Meri and Janelle.

Kody reminded Robyn that Janelle and Meri both said they wanted out of their spiritual unions. He also acted blameless, saying that Christine, Meri, and Janelle were the ones who changed, not him.

Ironically, it was Robyn who called Kody out for rewriting history, when they have both done that throughout the past several seasons. However, Robyn didn’t want to be held responsible for the destruction of the family so she projected this claim onto Kody to save her reputation.

One of the most infuriating moments of this highly scripted scene was when Robyn Brown claimed Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown focused more on their older children than their husband. She claimed they changed and wanted to spend more time with their kids than Kody Brown.

As a mother, Robyn should have understood Meri, Christine, and Janelle placing importance on their children’s well-being. Especially since their father was never a primary presence in their lives the way he was in the lives of Robyn’s children.

She called the OG 13 kids “outside of the core family.” However, Robyn didn’t explain what she meant by that statement.

Kody put himself on the perimeter of his children’s lives due to Robyn and her children, who were outside the original core family unit. He focused on cultivating and maintaining a relationship with them because Robyn likely required him to do so, versus the trio of other women who were used to Kody’s inaccessibility most days (and nights) and didn’t put as many demands on him.

Robyn’s statement is infuriating in light of Garrison Brown’s death, which the show is scheduled to address later this season. Kody’s inability to maintain good relationships with his adult children led to his estrangement from most of them, including Garrison, before his passing.

Sister Wives viewers were very vocal about the details of this particular interaction between Kody and Robyn Brown. They shared their thoughts on Reddit.

A second Redditor wrote, “I speak Kody (let me translate). Kody: If we aren’t getting along, it’s because of the wife. They need to change to fit me. My behavior has no bearing on the success of our marriage.”

“Robyn saying ‘no’ when Kody asked if she was okay when she was perfectly fine represents her personality. She is a martyr. Loves to be a victim,” claimed a third Sister Wives fan.

A fourth penned, “Scene with Kody and Robyn seems stilted because it is not authentic! They are having a scripted conversation to cover most of the issues that Robyn has been criticized for. TLC wants us to believe she’s been a proponent for all of the wives and the best for the family. How stupid do they think we are!??”

She slashed the price twice before finding a buyer. The property was first listed for $425,000. It finally sold for $388,000.

According to the publication, Kody Brown’s name does not appear in any paperwork associated with Garrison Brown’s estate. Kody and Garrison had been estranged in the years before his death, but his lack of inclusion in the estate also lends credence to the idea that Kody is not listed on most of his children’s birth certificates.

Garrison purchased the townhome in 2021, during the early stages of his falling out with Kody Brown. He paid $329,000 for the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home. The real estate listing notes that the home features new vinyl floors, a den, and a small outdoor space.

How did Garrison Brown die?

Garrison Brown died by suicide in March 2024. The 25-year-old was found by his younger brother, Gabriel Brown, inside his bedroom in the home he owned. Gabriel was asked to go by the property and check on his brother after Janelle Brown grew concerned when he stopped responding to messages.

Us Weekly obtained the autopsy report generated following Garrison’s death. According to the report, Garrison was heavily intoxicated at the time of his death, with a blood alcohol content of .307%. A BAC above 0.3 is potentially fatal.

Following Garrison’s death, the family remembered him as a kind and gentle soul. Several family members paid tribute on social media, and Sister Wives fans flooded a Flagstaff animal shelter with donations in Garrison’s name. He was a proud “cat dad.”

“I’m rewatching seasons 12 through 13 and I noticed a huge change in Kody. He is rarely positive, speaks mostly about his ‘young kids’, looks angrier, speaks angrier, is meanest to Meri about the B&B, and horrible to Ysabel about scoliosis surgery,” wrote one Redditor.

The crux of Sister Wives’ current season is the continued war between Kody and Robyn vs. Meri, Janelle, and Christine. However, the couple has not had much interaction with the women in some time, so their deep-rooted issues with the trio of women seem set in the past.

While Meri, Janelle, and Christine have all moved on away from their former polygamist family and created new lives for themselves, Robyn and Kody appear to be stuck in the past. They don’t have anything interesting going on in their lives, so their storylines continue to revolve around events that happened in years prior.

Therefore, it’s not uncommon to hear Kody talk badly about Christine, Janelle, and Meri, even though they rarely cross paths with him and Robyn. Kody continues to be stuck in the past, and unwilling to move on while his trio of first wives have flourished without him.

He and Robyn could do with figuring out who they are as a couple away from the other women and their children. She said she believes Robyn Brown came into the plural marriage hellbent on becoming Kody’s legal wife. Christine accused Robyn of “planting” the idea by repeatedly talking about polygamist families that had the husband divorce his legal wife to marry his newest wife legally so he could adopt her children. Christine said Robyn brought up the topic multiple times before it finally became a reality for their family.

Meri, 53, wed Kody, 55, in 1990. For years, she was his only legal wife. But in 2014, she agreed to divorce her husband so that he could marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, and adopt her three children from a previous marriage. Nearly a decade later, Meri and Kody ended their spiritual marriage. However, even though Meri and Kody have cut ties, she doesn’t plan to return to using her maiden name of Barber.

“We’ve talked about it a lot. It’s like, okay, I am connected to Kody Brown by having his last name, but at the same time, that’s all anybody knows me as. That’s all I know myself as for the past 34 years,” Meri told People in a recent interview “I definitely wouldn’t ever change it back to my maiden name.”

Meri was just 19 years old when she and Kody tied the knot. She’s been known as Meri Brown for far longer than she was Meri Barber, which would make it strange to revert to her former name, she pointed out.

“That would be weird for me. I only had [my maiden name] for 19 years,” she said. “This one I’ve had for 34, so it would be weird on that level.”

The ‘Sister Wives’ star can think of one reason she’d change her name

For now, Meri plans to keep using Brown as her last name. But there is one situation that would make her consider changing her name. The TLC personality says she would “probably keep [her name] until I get married again and change it.”

“Hopefully, his last name also is not Brown,” she said, adding that it would be “funny to just be Meri Christmas.”

Since announcing her and Kody’s breakup in January 2023, Meri has started dating again. She was briefly in a relationship with a man named Amos. And in a post-Christmas Instagram update, she hinted she was seeing someone new.

“It’s a Christmas miracle! #MysteryMan #LifeIsGood,” she captioned a photo of herself with a man named Brandon Stone.

Meri recently told People that she’d turned to dating sites to make romantic connections. Though she said she’d “met a couple of people through people,” like many people she was relying on apps to find a partner.

“[W]hen you live in a small town, and then this day and age, it seems to be the thing is the dating sites,” she said.

In 2014, Meri Brown’s marriage to Kody Brown collapsed after 24 years. Sister Wives viewers were spoon-fed information that they divorced so Kody could adopt Robyn Brown’s kids. While that proved to be right, circumstances surrounding their split were neatly covered up.

By 2014, Meri and Kody were estranged. Kody had decided to spend most of his time with Robyn and their children, abandoning his other wives and family members.

However, Meri admitted ending her legal marriage was heartbreaking. She believed her spiritual relationship with Kody would remain intact in the same way as his marriages to Christine and Janelle Brown.

During the newest Sister Wives episode, Robyn Brown claimed she wasn’t behind Kody Brown’s divorce from Meri Brown. She tried to set the longstanding rumor straight but was debunked by Christine Brown.

Christine claimed that right after Kody spiritually married Robyn, “She started talking to us about these other families where the first wife divorced the husband so he could marry the second wife legally and legally adopt the kids. And I remember thinking, yeah, that’s a plant.” She continued that Robyn “mentioned that several times through the years like she was putting that in there because she would have loved that to happen.”

Robyn said of her reported bad behavior, “The idea that I, like, planted an idea in Meri’s head is an absolute lie. I never said it.”

Rumors swirled during Christmas 2023 that Meri Brown had opted to change her name following her split from Kody Brown. During the holidays, Meri shared a photo of an ornament that read, “Meri Caroline Davenport.” Meri is the reality TV star’s legal first name, and Caroline is her legal middle name.

While we first suspected a surname change last year, Meri never confirmed or denied the rumors. In recent days, gossip about the change has been reignited. Upcoming clips from Sister Wives shared on the show’s Facebook page suggest that Meri will discuss a legal name change during season 19.

We are curious to learn if the mother of one has changed her name and why she picked Davenport. It is unclear where the name comes from, but it certainly is not Meri’s maiden name. Before marrying Kody Brown, Meri was known as Meri Caroline Barber. The name doesn’t appear to be associated with her maternal side of the family, either. Her mother’s maiden name was Ahlstrom.

Christine, who was born Christine Alred, took the Brown family name in 1994 after her spiritual marriage ceremony. They were never legally wed, though. She socially dropped the name last year but still uses Brown professionally.
